Face Slimming

Face slimming or masseter muscle hypertrophy treatment using neuromodulators is suitable for someone who has a wide, square jaw and would like to achieve a more oval shape of the face
A square jaw shape when it is out of proportion with other facial features is often perceived as a masculine feature. Majority of women desire more oval and slim face shape
Often, a square jaw shape is the result of masseter muscle hypertrophy. This muscle is one of the main ones that participate in chewing, but due to its size it also largely determines the shape of the face.
Reduction of this muscle size and as result a reduced face width can be achieved with the injection of neuromodulators (Botox, Xeomin, Nuceiva, Dysport) that cause a long lasting but still temporary effect.

Usually, masseter hypertrophy is an asymptomatic condition that can be inherited or caused by chewing habits, ethnicity (seen more commonly in Asian women), or by bruxism (teeth grinding).
However, before proceeding with the treatment other causes of the enlarged masseter muscle should be ruled out such as a salivary gland disorder, soft tissue mass or odontogenic problems.
Frequently asked questions
How much Botox will I need?
Depending on the size of the muscle, you may require 25 to 40 units injected to each side.
When will I start noticing the changes?
The first effect you will start noticing 2-4 weeks after the treatment with the maximum result appearing in 2-3 months.
How long do the results last?
The results last anywhere between 9 to 12 months, though a reduction in teeth grinding and clenching of the jaw may last 6 to 7 months. There are some variations in the duration of the effect that also depend on your chewing habits, however, it often lengthens with each subsequent treatment.
Is there an alternative treatment option?
Surgical reduction of the masseter muscle is an alternative treatment option with more permanent results, but it is an invasive procedure that also carries its own risks.
Are there any side effects of this treatment?

The most common complaint is chewing weakness that is reported by about 30% of the patients and appears within 2 weeks of the treatment and abates within the next 1-2 weeks.
Bruises or hematomas are well known side effects of any injections and disappear within a week.
Dry mouth is another potential complication of the treatment. It is caused by diffusion of the medication into parotid gland and happens in about 5-7% of patients.
In aging patients this treatment may cause jowling or skin sagginess. This effect can be diminished by using smaller doses and more frequent treatment intervals and/or by relaxation of the platysma muscle.
Unusual muscle bulging can be a temporary effect when different layers of the muscle are affected by the treatment at different speeds. However, an additional injection may be required if still there 2 weeks after the treatment.
All side effects and potential complications will be discussed during the initial consultation with our doctor. The risk of such complications is significantly decreased with advanced knowledge of anatomy and the skill of your provider. Choosing the appropriate depth and doing careful mapping of the injection sites are extremely important for a successful treatment.
How much does face slimming procedure cost?
The usual price of neuromodulators treatment cost 10$ per unit. Alternatively, you can choose a package price that will be more affordable if you are required higher dose of the medication and will include any touch up treatment id required within next 2 weeks.
